REEL TALK CINEMA: A Film Screening of the Documentary "U PEOPLE"
A film screening bringing representations of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender life to the big screen. Open to everyone, this is an event for free-spirited and open-minded thinkers. It's not just about LGBT cinema; it's about new forms of cinema and unconventional expressions.
Don't miss the Tallahassee screening of the film that has everyone talking! Directed and produced by filmmakers Olive Demetrius and Hanifah Walidah, U people collects the stories of gender expression, sexual orientation and social placement of a rarely-depicted cross-section of people of color --women gay and straight, and gender non-conforming.

U People begins with the following disclaimer: “When you view this film do not make assumptions about anyone’s sexuality.”
Recently winning the Jury Award at the IMAGE+NATION LGBT Film Festival in Canada, U People is an accidental yet timely documentary. The first rockumentary of its kind, U People presents an entire cast and crew of 30 gay, straight women and trans people of color who were caught on camera behind the scenes of a not so typical music video shoot. What the camera caught will introduces a hilarious, candid and very human voice into the discussion of gay and straight relations and the diversity within the minority.
U people reveals in-depth and candid conversations around many issues ranging from: homophobia, racism, where they both intersect, gender politics, parent/child relations, gay marriage, and civil rights. The mission of the documentary is to dismantle the blanket categorization and ignorance inherent in the phrase "you people" by displaying unique individuals in possession of personal power and self-determination. Running time 80 min.
